The concept of there being “Genuinely Trans” individuals is used in a couple of ways. It is used to argue that some trans people are authentic while suggesting that the majority are part of a social trend or attention-seeking cisgender people pretending to be trans.
The term “Genuinely Trans” is applied to various trans individuals, particularly those who may disagree with the speaker on trans issues. It is used in a way that coerces some trans people into conforming to societal expectations or accepting harmful transphobic ideas so they can be considered genuinely trans. The aim is to exert pressure on individuals to conform and suppress meaningful discussions about their rights.
Conversations surrounding the notion of being genuinely trans often lead to debates where some argue that there are no genuinely trans people because it is challenging to distinguish between those who are genuine and those who are pretending. These arguments usually assume that those who are pretending are intentionally causing harm to others.
At times, people claim not to be transphobic because they support genuinely trans individuals but express issues with trans rights activists.
In many cases, the term “genuinely trans” is used as a means to deflect from meaningful discussions about material rights. Two common sentiments emerge: either anti-trans individuals are willing to sacrifice the rights of the “genuinely trans” to prevent rights for the larger group of trans people they reject, or they outright deny the existence of any “genuinely trans” people. Both of these sentiments aim to deny rights to all trans people.
Examples
I think we can acknowledge the phenomenon that there exists a very small fraction of (mostly male) young children who show symptoms of profound gender dysphoria that persists for much of their lives. We could reasonably call them "genuinely trans children."
There’s no such thing as ‘genuinely trans’. In men it’s a fetish, in women it’s a social contagion.
There is no 'genuinely trans.' That's a religious belief that you're trying to accommodate.
This is not some1 that is trans. Those whom are genuinely trans R not 2 B feared in the bathroom & R where they genuinely feel they’ve always belonged. 1 that is looking @ ur niece in an inappropriate way in the bathroom is (likely) a sex offender & 1’s gender plays no role here.
The point is that genuinely trans people would make an effort (and still do) over time. Nowadays though, there are people arguing that any man can simply declare 'I'm a woman now' and he magically becomes one and gains access to all of the spaces that come with it.
