Gender Critical

Gender Critical

The gender critical movement, also known as sex realist or TERF (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist) (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist), is an anti-trans reactionary movement that positions itself in opposition to “gender identity ideology”.

At first glance, the movement presents itself as critical of the role of gender in society and aligned with second-wave feminism. However, many influential figures within the movement have expressed opposition to important feminist issues such as pay equality, measures to address period poverty, reproductive freedoms, and other causes typically associated with feminism. Instead, they tend to favor sex-essentialist beliefs and promote anti-trans rhetoric.

The movement has gained enough traction to have some organisations and political parties globally declare themselves as gender critical.

A significant focus of this movement is directed against trans women. There is a common theme of hostility towards trans women, stemming from two perspectives. For women, this hostility is often justified by past experiences of violence perpetrated by men. For men, it is sometimes framed as a path to redemption for past misogyny and violence against women.

Trans men are also targeted by gender critical beliefs, but the justification is often based on a misguided sense of protectionism, the notion that trans men need to be safeguarded from themselves.

Examples
  • We must resist the indoctrination of a generation. Trans like porn IS the culture but we should not accept either uncritically, as neutral and without deconstructing them. Framing is the key to this. A feminist analysis of porn and a gender critical analysis of trans ideology.
  • You don't understand the Equality Act 2010. There is no definition of 'transphobia' in law. There is a protection for gender critical beliefs. You cannot discriminate against someone for knowing sex is real and that genderist ideology is nonsense. Misgendering is not transphobic.
  • Holding gender critical views, i.e. that sex is real & it matters is a protected characteristic in exactly the same way as race is. You can’t pick & choose which protected characteristics you agree with & which you do not. The law doesn’t work like that.
  • Gender critical beliefs – in summary that biological sex is real, immutable, binary and important
  • What must say rigid is the delimitations of single sex spaces based on sex. You really aren't good at this. Stop fucking confusing sex & gender. What is wrong with you? Sex=real gender=fake. It's that simple.
  • What I do know is that I share what would be termed gender critical beliefs. I belive that biological sex is real, immutable and has a material impact on human lives. I do not hate trans people, I just dont share their undertanding of reality and much of what flows from it.
  • Isn’t it wild that “sex is real and relevant to daily life” is now “extreme gender critical ideology?” We used to call it common fucking sense.
  • No you twit. Sex recognition is an innate ability in mammals. There is a difference between saying that this woman is not very feminine and saying this pink wearing creature is a man.
  • Most people are "gender critical," aka "normal."Like most people, he definitely knows the difference between a man and a woman
